The Iredell Senior Center, in recognizing the need and ability for the continued growth of older adults is dedicated to promoting the physical, emotional and economic well being of older adults.

An active lifestyle is considered one of the most important elements for health and wellness.  Studies have shown that a person who remains active and involved with others experiences less illness, a longer life and greater overall life satisfaction during their later years.  

The programs and services at the Iredell Senior Center are designed to meet the changing needs of older adults and assist them in remaining an active, vital part of the community.

Council on Aging Programs

COA is the ONLY agency county-wide singularly focused on the needs of Iredell’s older adults and has been in existence for some 45 years providing a variety of services and programs designed specifically for older adults, enhancing independence and preserving dignity.

Activities and Events

Health & Wellness Programs


ISC offers a variety of exercise programs for different levels of fitness ability. 

Shuffleboard, billiards, table tennis, fitness classes, and an exercise room with equipment all promote increased strength and flexibility, along with an opportunity for learning and fun.

Blood pressure checks and laboratory tests are available, along with other periodic health screenings. Health education topics with up-to-date information are offered regularly.

Evidence-based programs, like a Matter of Balance and Living Healthy with Diabetes, are offered periodically.

Social Recreation


ISC keeps seniors socially active with their peers, who share common interests and life experiences.

Seniors may come to the center for special social events, clubs, trips, card and board games, dances, singing and music.

Educational Programs


The Senior Center offers older adults continued learning experiences through programs, seminars, and classes.

Examples of classes offered are computers, personal finance, identity and security, crafts, art, sewing, quilting, gardening and plants, a Book Club, and other topics of interest.

The center has a library with many books, puzzles, and videos to borrow. Magazines are available as well. Our computer lab is open for use when classes are not in session. We have free W-Fi for seniors to bring their own devices to use.

Other Services


Medicare and insurance counseling appointments are available through the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) and may be scheduled.

ISC hosts the AARP Tax-Aide program for free income tax filing. Free legal services are offered monthly. Long term care counseling is offered; this service provides options, problems, and placement for long-term care. Information and referral services for community resources may be requested.
